Claire’s Foster Story: From Rescue to Rest and Recovery 🐕

Sometimes the ones who need us most aren’t puppies, but seniors with silent stories and gentle hearts.

I recently began fostering a beautiful Greyhound named Timon from Huellas Invisibles Animal Refuge in Martos. I’ve always been drawn to Greyhounds for their calm nature and suitability as house dogs. Our current dog is quite anxious, and we felt that another calm companion could bring her comfort and confidence.

Instead of fostering a puppy, we made a conscious choice: we wanted to help an older dog who might otherwise be overlooked.

A friend of mine, who volunteers at the refuge, told me about Timon—a sweet soul who had clearly endured hardship and desperately needed a safe place to rest and heal. When we met Laura, the dedicated volunteer who had been caring for him, it was love at first sight. My husband was initially hesitant—Timon was extremely thin—but Laura reassured us that he had been thoroughly checked and was healthy enough to be fostered.

We brought him home fully equipped: a soft bed, warm dog coats, food, probiotics for his sensitive stomach, and plenty of treats. Laura has stayed in touch, regularly checking in to support us and offer help when needed.

Timon—now called Norman—has truly settled in. He spends most of his time snoozing in front of the fire, but also enjoys long walks and has even started playing with our other dog. His tail wags more often now, his eyes are brighter, and he’s quick to offer us sweet licks and sleepy smiles.

"Norman isn’t just a foster dog—he’s family. Once he’s gained a little more weight and strength, we’ll officially adopt him. Until then, we’re soaking up every moment with our lovely, gentle boy."
